Our interpreter Tahir Cheeman talks about the work of an interpreter and what makes a good interpreter.
Who are you and what languages do you interpret?
My name is Tahir Cheeman. I interpret three different languages. My native language is Kurdish, and I interpret Kurmandzi, Sorani, and Badini. I also know Turkish and, if necessary, Persian and Arabic.
What kind of customers do you have?
My clients include the City of Espoo, the City of Helsinki, district courts, immigration offices, and health and social services. I do a wide range of interpreting work.
What is the best thing about being an interpreter?
I can help people. I think it's very important to be able to convey accurate information to customers.
What makes a good interpreter?
A good interpreter is:
Calm
Accurate
Empathetic
A good interpreter conveys the message to the client and passes on the correct information. Good interpreting helps clients move forward in life.
