Authorised translator
Who is an authorised translator?
An accredited translator is a language professional who has been officially qualified by the Finnish National Board of Education to produce legally binding translations. These translations are recognised by the authorities as reliable and are often required in situations such as official correspondence, applications for study or employment, or for documents used abroad.
What is an authorised translation?
An authorised or official translation is a legally valid translation of a document that corresponds to the original document in the source language. The authenticity of the translation is confirmed by the authorised translator's signature, stamp and often by an official confirmation clause.
Only translators authorised by the Finnish National Board of Education, who have passed the required examination as authorised translators, may produce official translations. Read more about official translation here.
What is the Apostille testimony?
An Apostille certificate is an official confirmation of the authority of the person who issued the document. It is needed when the document is used abroad in a country that is party to the Hague Apostille Convention.
The apostille replaces traditional legalisation and can be obtained for documents issued by a Finnish authority or equivalent, such as an authorised translator or legalised doctor.
When do you need an Apostille certificate?
When you take an official document abroad to a Hague Convention country
When the receiving authority requires proof of the authenticity of the document or the signatory.
In the case of a private document, which must first be certified by a notary public
